THE BIRTH OF A SHIRT! Part Three: Color Separation
Ok, here is the next installment of our “Birth of a Design” series! Step inside for a video that shows my process for getting these designs ready for printing!
Please note that this is just an overview of the color separation process. I just wanted to show you how a design is broken down into layers in order for it to be translated into the final look on the shirt. There are a few steps not included mainly because I thought it would be a bit boring to sit through me cleaning up some files…and I don’t want any of you to fall asleep watching this stuff
If anyone is interested, I can go into more depth in future videos. But for now, sit back and watch Zombie vs. Shark come to life through multiple layers of color!

Another great installment in the Birth of A Design series. Can’t wait to see the inner workings of your print shop and to get my hands on the finished product.
Hi, love those designs, how may i get in touch to order something?
cheers,
ross
When will this shirt be available? I am definitely buying it!
@ Jon Rocks - Soon…very soon! Hopefully this week!
I’ve purchased shirts for my boyfriend a few times and I have to tell you how impressed I am with the quality of your t-shirts.
F**k Hot Topic; your shirts are so amazing and bright. They can also with stand runs through the washing machine. He wears his shirts all the time and they’re as good as new.
Great job and keep up the good work, I hope you guys are at the Creepshow in Buffalo again this year!!
I’m snaggin’ a banner to put on my hair page!
this a cool idea, but I was kinda expecting to see how you go from the colored layers, to the b/w screens for printing. I know you had to separate, the colors to where they do not overlap each other for the printer,(at least, that’s what I have to do) How do you go about doing it? I know there are tons of ways to do it, and I know my method of separating might be different than yours.
Next time, you should TOTALLY get in depth more with the separations stage rather than, the process of printing. Just an idea, thanks for the fun read regardless ben!

@ baker - Thanks for the comments. Yeah, I wasn’t sure how in-depth people wanted me to go which is why I chose to do a basic overview for now. In the future I will go into more depth as to how I separate the colors, etc. with other designs. Believe it or not, there wasn’t too much to do to this one when I received it from Jeff so that’s one of the reasons I didn’t post more. But yeah, in the future I may just blog about the entire process with more detail.
very cool process video about color separation…
may i know what software you are using for that?
@JEnel - I’m using Photoshop, but you can also use Illustrator or even Corel Draw.
