One Final Piece…(updated with video!)
As I’ve been teasing all along, there is one final piece to the Ladies of the Evil Dead : Extreme Edition. Something that I never thought I would be able to obtain…but alas, I have. Keep reading to find out the ultimate souvenir that will be included in this amazing release…
Some of you may recall a special limited edition shirt I did back in February that contained vials of water from the original Crystal Lake. When we did that, I honestly thought that would be the only time I’d ever get to include a piece of “cinematic history” in our limited edition releases. Fast forward a few months and here we are, planning out the Ladies of the Evil Dead : Extreme Edition and all I can think about is how to push this one over the top… We already have the amazing 10 color design, collector’s box, signed poster…but it didn’t feel complete to me.
And while I was racking my brain for more ideas, I looked up at the vial of water on my shelf and it just hit me…we need dirt. We need to find a way to get to where they filmed The Evil Dead and get lots of dirt. Now, lets put this into perspective here… We are located in Upstate NY. And I’m not talking Westchester here (for all you NYC folk), but 6 hours North of NYC. Anyway, the drive to get the Crystal Lake water back in February was long, but we did it in a day…after all, it was just in New Jersey. But The Evil Dead was filmed in Morristown, TN. Now that’s quite a drive…and we were running out of time.
Enter Mike D., who’s been a regular customer of ours for a few years now. After our original plans to obtain the dirt fell through, I decided to reach out to Mike because I knew he lived in Tennessee. I had no idea how close he was, but I could at least ask. Come to find out, he was about 4 hours West of Morristown. And not only that, but he agreed to get the dirt even before I asked. I was speechless… Here was someone willing and able to go take on this ridiculous task for us. Amazing. So, I did my research and obtained some information as to where the remains might be located. I sent Mike all the info and a week later, he was on his way.
On Sunday, November 15 I received a text message that simply said “Operation Evil Dirt is complete!” He immediately sent me images to prove he was there, and four days later, I received two large Priority Mail boxes full of dirt. I seriously cannot thank Mike enough for doing this for us. Short of flying down there myself, I had no idea how we would be able to pull this off. But Mike did it, and came through with flying colors…
So remember, every order for the Ladies of the Evil Dead : Extreme Edition will include this vial of dirt! This is truly a piece of film history, and a priceless souvenir!
Below are the images that Mike sent me of his trip, and the boxes of dirt when I received them the other day.

UPDATED 12.10.09 : Check out the video that Mike sent below, as well as a message from him as well. Thanks again Mike!!
I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped make Operation: Evil Dirt a success. I had some really great friends with me including Thomas “C and B” Pierpoint, Ashley Gaskin (we had our own Ash!) and my amazing girlfriend Katie for agreeing to go on this weird, wild journey with me.
I’d also like to thank Ben, Kristy and Tim (and The whole Fright Rags family) for thinking of me to undertake this mission. Ben and Fright Rags have been very good to me and I thought I would try to return the favor for them.
The trip was a long one filled with ill timing, seedy hotels, redneck hollers and somewhat criminal trespassing but once Thomas and I stood in between the two trees where the cabin once stood, it was all worth it.
I hope everyone enjoys this rare keepsake as much as we enjoyed venturing after it. From one Fright Fan to everyone else, it was worth every minute and was a complete blast. Hope you like the video and enjoy the “Ladies of The Evil Dead” release!

This may be the coolest ting you’ve ever done. You’re essentially getting people to lose their shit over DIRT. That hasn’t happened since…..I don’t know……DRACULA!

Cool idea. the only problem is people is some countries (such as me in Australia) wont be able to order now due to quarantine restrictions which prohibit the importation of organic materials such plants etc and would include dirt.

Still surprising THAT MUCH of the chimney is still there Considering the movie was filmed in 1979.
Wonder if the old path up to the cabin is still there too or all trees. Nice addition to the new shirt design.

Dalton & Earl are kind of dumb. Just voicing my opinion. Why hate on people for their beliefs just because you happen to disagree? And because I know this is gonna come from someone, yes, I would ask the same question of any ignorant, asshole christian spreading hate about muslims or jews or buddhists or whatever.
Evil Dead is an awesome movie and the shirt will be equally awesome, I’m sure.

Just an explanation for the “edit” above…. There have been some posts from those who want to comment on that first “church burning” post that someone wrote earlier. While I support free speech and the right to one’s own beliefs, I also need to reign things in at times…especially on my own site. These comments are, and were, getting a bit out of hand. And while I let the first two slide, I will not support any additional commentary on the subject.
Please stay on topic and leave any personal religious or political views out of the comments. After all, we’re talking about some dirt here
Thanks.
